From the first sights the food in Scotland may seem a little plain and dull, but on other hand it is healthy and rather nutritious. One of the national dishes of the country that is closely associated with Scotland is Haggis (innards and offal flavored up with spices. This dish should be put in a sheep's stomach and served with mashed turnip. All in all haggis is a large sausage mixed with suet, onion and spices. There also exists a vegetarian version of this dish.
Traditional breakfast in Scotland consists of porridge, smoked fish, for example, kippers or herring, tomatoes or mushrooms. Fried eggs with bacon or sausage is another variant of the breakfast. As the main course for dinner the locals prefer national Scotch Broth – a hearty soup with vegetables. In Scotland as well as in England the so-called Afternoon Tea is popular. Tea is usually associated with various baked goods (scones, gingerbread, fruit breads and cakes). Bannock as a type of bakery is made of oatmeal usually in the form of flat cake baked on a griddle. High Tea is a late early evening meal that consists of any hot dish, followed by bread and butter, tea or coffee. Scotland's national drink is Whisky. There are some blends made on the base of Glenfiddich.
